Almost every production depletes natural resources and many films make a significant contribution to climate change. So how can you turn your production ‘green’? This session gives practical suggestions on how to reduce your film's carbon footprint and minimise its environmental impact. However nobody has all the answers, and every production is different, so there will be time to discuss practicalities and to share ideas about sustainable filmmaking.

Accessible film-making and making film accessible with Liz Crow (Roaring Girl Productions).
Drawing on her experiences during the making of award-winning films such as ‘Frida Kahlo’s Corset’, ‘Nectar’ and ‘Illuminations’, writer – director and activist Liz Crow will show just how possible it is to work inclusively in film and the creative advantages for a sector where disabled people make up only 2% of workers.
Liz will also discuss the importance, application and limitations of captioning, sign language and audio description (ACS) and the new approaches that Roaring Girl Productions are pioneering to making film accessible.
This session also features a sneak preview of Liz’s new film-based installation ‘Resistance’.
Writing, directing and producing issue based drama with Rachael Drummond Hay, Richard Penfold and Sam Hearn (Omni Productions)
Omni Productions are an award-winning 360-degree digital, design and production company based in Bristol. Their latest film ‘Leaving’, made in partnership with Glennie Macintosh, recently premiered at this years Encounters Film Festival ‘Best of British: Made in the South West’ showcase and is a 2008 TCM Classic Shorts Finalist. Commissioned by a wide range of public agencies including Wiltshire Police, Swindon Women’s Refuge and the NSPCC, ‘Leaving’ offers a glimpse into the long and arduous process of safely leaving an abusive relationship. Following a screening of the film writer/ co-director Richard Penfold, co-director Sam Hearn and producer Rachel Drummond Hay will discuss their approach to creating acclaimed, high quality issue-based drama. This is a great chance to see the film before its broadcast on ITV West on December 18th and to meet the creative team behind it."

In 45 minutes, DFG will give you the insider tips to give your career a kick start, from navigating the television career ladder to the opportunities outside broadcast, and how to make the most of your short film. We'll talk fast and allow time for clips and questions too!
Alex Tweddle - The Forgotten Children of Congo
Made in 2007, the documentary ‘The Forgotten Children of Congo’ was filmed over four weeks in the Democratic Republic of Congo. From the remoteness of the Congo Basin, to the capital Kinshasa and the volatile Ituri Province in the East, this powerful and sometimes harrowing documentary focuses on the plight of the country's street children, many of whom were found to be involved in witchcraft, cannibalism and as child soldiers.
Following the screening there will be a chance to talk with writer, director and producer Alex Tweedle.
